Hoop Dreams, 2017 by Matthew Cole
Matthew Cole is an American painter based in Brooklyn, NY. In his artworks he makes use of different methods, such as traditional painting, printmaking and collages to convey memories of actual and subconscious events – a fusion of real life and fantasy, often stemming from profound personal experiences. His main techniques are layering and distorting to portray emotion in his paintings. Cole uses composite imagery to represent the fragmented nature of memory, narrated through personal as well as familiar references from art history. This artwork is part of our collaboration with NBB Gallery and on show until November 30, 2022. Check out our opening hours.
