Too Soon, 2019 by Sebastian Helling

Sebastian Helling is a Norwegian based artist from Oslo. His expressionistic practice privileges materiality, gesture and color, his collage-like canvases coursing with thick planes of vivid pinks or spray- painted blues that jag across the picture plane and occasionally cohere into recognizable humanlike forms or biomorphic shapes. In his work he also makes use of text, which adds a layer of irreverence with phrases such as “You are so pretty I could die” to canvases embedded with tiny drawings. Helling exhibited in London, Paris, Oslo, Stockholm, and Los Angeles, and also worked as an artist in residence at Hooper Projects in Los Angeles.
